Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up from Kampala or Entebbe
You will be picked up by our safari guide and embark on a 205 kilometers journey to Ziwa rhino sanctuary via Luwero-Nakasongola. Payments for admission will be made. Meet the site guide at the visitor’s center and be briefed about the rules and regulations during the trekking. The activity will last for about 2-3hours depending on the movement of the rhinos. You will undertake a nature walk searching for the white Rhinos, once you locate them, an hour of observation and photography will be granted. Return for lunch and later proceed to Murchison Falls National Park via Masindi. Proceed to the park gate for admission. Murchison falls national park is the largest faunal reserve in Uganda, with a diverse of wildlife and popular waterfalls. Drive through the tropical rainforest (Budongo) with some spotting of primates like olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys and many more, that highlights the significance of the park in the ecosystem. Proceed to the world’s most powerful water falls for a hike. This takes you to the bottom of the falls where you have a panoramic view of “Murchison” and “uhuru” falls dropping downriver on a rocky base known as the devil’s caldron at a height of 45meters, before they calm to join Lake Albert in the west. Also witness the falls compressing through a seven-meter narrow gorge, producing thunderous sound that can be heard miles away. Also enjoy the permanent mist spray from the vibrant falls. This is exciting and adventurous activity that everyone MUST DO. Embark on the car and drive northwards through savannah and check-in at Pakuba safari lodge to refresh yourself, have dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Boat Cruise.
Rise up early and have your hot breakfast, meet your safari guide at 6:30am and head out for a sunrise game drive. Enjoy your game drive in the savanna in quest for the big 4 like Lions, Leopards, elephant and Buffalo. Other mammals like deffasa waterbucks, Uganda Kobs, giraffes, Oribis, warthog, bushbucks, spotted hyenas, side stripped jackals and many more. Enjoy the fascinating scenery ranging from the woodland to the palm dotted savannah. Birds of different colors like the pin-tailed whydah, African paradise flycatcher, northern red bishop, purple sterling, fork-tailed drongo and so on will be crossing your way. Drive back to the lodge for a lunch break until 1:30pm ahead of 02:00pm boat cruise.
This afternoon on boat, cruise to the bottom of the falls and expect to see lots of bird species like bee-eaters, African jacana, the rarely spotted African finfoot, African fish eagle, cattle egrets, little egrets, African dater, long tailed cormorants, of course not forgetting crocodiles, Hippos, buffaloes, elephants, waterbucks, warthogs and many more. Numerous aquatic plants such as papyrus, Nile Lily, water hyacinth. It’s phenomenal and therefore do not forget your camaras.
A short evening game drive will be conducted as you drive towards the lodge. In the due course
expect to see diurnal animals like elephants, buffalos, waterbucks, bushbucks, Jacksons hartebeest, giraffes, Uganda Kobs and many more. If chanced, lions and leopards will be spotted as the weather gets cooler. Return to your lodge, refresh yourself, have dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Kibale National Park.
After your hot breakfast, check out from your lodge with all your luggage, meet your safari guide at 7:00am and embark on a 363kilometers journey to Kibale national park via the Butiaba escarpment and have a scenic view of Lake Albert at the base of the western rift valley. Butiaba used to be a transportation hub, where goods would be ferried from South Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo to Kenya through Masindi port. Have a brief photo moment and continue with your journey via Hoima-Kyenjojo through Tea plantations and reach Fort Portal for lunch. You will then drive to Kibale and check in at Chimpanzee Forest lodge or Kibale Forest lodge for a refreshment, dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking and Bigodi Swamp Walk.
After you have had your hot breakfast, meet your guide at 7:00am and drive to the visitor’s center for registration and briefing on the rules and regulations while in forest. Join your respective group led by a forest guide and embark on the trekking. While in the forest you will follow the vocalization e.g. grant, pant hoot, scream to determine the location of the chimps. The movements and activities of the day determine how fast you encounter these cousins! As soon as you encounter them, you will be given an hour of observation and photography. It’s fascinating and rewarding to observe the social networking of chimpanzee in the wild. Meet your guide and drive back to the lodge for lunch break. Thereafter proceed for Bigodi swamp and community walk, interact with locals and learn their way of life, history and participate in the local way of coffee processing by roasting and pounding until its ready for drinking. Try banana juice making and do not hesitate to taste on the finished products. Bigodi swamp is also an eco-tourist site specifically for primate like the red colobus monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, L’hoste monkeys, red tailed monkeys and many more. Over 200 bird species have been recorded in this fascinating area including the great blue turacos, black and white casqued horn bills, white-spotted flufftail, Papyrus gonolek, grey headed king fisher, African grey parrots, western nicator and many more. Return to your lodge for refreshment, dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
On this morning, check out of your lodge with all your luggage, have breakfast, embark on a 2hours journey to Queen Elizabeth national Park. Drive through beautiful villages with preferred stops for photography of different crater lakes, landscapes, plantations and communities. Queen Elizabeth national park lies at the foothills of the “mountain of the Moon” and it is the most popular tourist destination, because of its diverse eco-system and the reknown tree climbing lions. Check in at Kasenyi safari camp or Irungu Forest lodge or similar lodge for lunch.
Undertake an evening game drive at 4:30pm to 7:00pm in the open plains of Kasenyi. Mammals such as Lion, Leopard, Uganda Kobs, Defassa waterbucks, elephants, warthogs will be literally seen with the aid of your safari guide. This will highlight the significance of the park in the ecosystem. Drive back to the lodge for a refreshment, dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Morning Game Drive and Boat Cruise.
Wake up for an early breakfast and meet your driver guide at 6:30am, drive to the eastern part of the park for an adventure and lookout for the Big 4 which include Lions, Leopards, Buffalos, elephants. Other mammals like hippopotamus, waterbucks, Uganda Kobs, warthogs and many others should also be expected during the drive. Stay at ease for the birds like bateleur, the red-necked spurfowls, broad billed rollers, flappet lark, southern red bishop and many more. Visit Bunyampaka Salt Lake and see how salt is mined and processed by the locals. If you are lucky, you will see the lesser flamingos that Migrate from Lake Nakuru in Kenya to Uganda to find food (blue-green algae) and shelter, best time is October and April. Return to the lodge for a lunch break.
Leave your lodge at 1:40pm and drive to Kazinga channel for a boat cruise at 1400hrs, this channel joins Lake Gorge to Lake Edward, with a depth of 3 meters, covering a total distance of 40kilometers with diverse wildlife. During the cruise, you will have a chance to see Hippos, Crocodiles, elephants, buffalos, Giant Forest hogs among others. Birds like pink backed pelicans, great white pelicans, Papyrus Gonolek, African fish eagle, water thick-knee, African jacana, lesser moorhen, the grey crowned cranes mention them! It’s simply amazing! Head back to the lodge for breathtaking, dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
After you have had your breakfast, check out from your lodge with your entire language, meet your safari guide and embark on 229kilometers journey to Bwindi impenetrable forest with a lunch break in Kabale town. Continue with your drive to Bwindi. The Park is a UNESCO world heritage site with enormous biodiversity including half of the world’s mountain Gorillas, chimpanzee, L’hoste monkeys, mangabey, black and white colobus monkeys, forest elephants, bushbucks, duikers, sitatunga and many others. Proceed with the drive through the dense and tropical rain forest characterized by baboo zones, ferns, and unique topography. Check in at Bakiga lodge, silverback lodge, lake mulehe gorilla lodge or Nkuringo gorilla lodge or similar lodges for refreshment, relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Day 8: Gorilla Trekking and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi.
Have breakfast and check out of the lodge with all your belongings and packed lunch, well dressed in your trekking attires. Catch up with your guide and drive to the visitor’s center for a short cultural entertainment and briefing before heading out to the jungle for trekking. This trekking will take you 1-2 hours or more depending on the movement of the Gorillas. You will trek up and down in a dense forest in search for the giant apes. An hour of observation and photography will be granted. After this outstanding experience, you will be awarded a certificate as an acknowledgement of mountain gorilla trekking in their natural habitat of which you can display in your sitting room for remembrance.
Meet your safari guide and head to lake Bunyonyi where you will check in at Bunyonyi overland resort or similar lodge.
After a bit of relaxation, you will enjoy a sunset canoe ride to explore the different islands of the lake. Lake Bunyonyi is the deepest lake in Uganda, with 29 islands including the punishment island where the Bakiga girls who became pregnant before marriage would be taken and left to die in isolation The lake also hosts numerous bird species that portrays the name of the lake, “Bunyonyi” meaning “Birds”. With the help of your guide, you will identify birds like the common cormorants, African paradise flycatcher, African blue flycatcher, African jacana, red chested sunbird, variable sunbird, cinnamon chested bee-eater and so on. Return to your lodge for refreshment, dinner and overnight.
Day 9: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park.
Have your morning breakfast and check out from the lodge with all your luggage, meet your safari guide at 8:00am and embark on a 256kilometer journey to Lake Mburo. Lake Mburo Nati0nal is the smallest savannah park in Uganda with abundant biodiversity, characterized by permanent swamps, lake, woodland and grassland.
Check in at Kigarama wilderness lodge or Rwakobo for your lunch and relaxation. Later head out for an evening game drive at 4:00pm in search for leopards, buffalos, Zebras, Giraffes, Elands, Impalas, Defassa waterbucks, and many more. This game drive will last for about 3hours then retreat to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 10: Transfer to Kampala or Entebbe.
Have breakfast and checkout with all your luggage at 6:30am, meet your safari guide then head out and conduct a 4hours morning drive to increase the chances of seeing more leopards, hyenas, hippopotamus, more herds of zebras, buffaloes, impalas, waterbucks and so on. Exit the park and proceed with your journey via Kayabwe with a stopover at the Equator point for an illustration on why you weigh less while on equator line, take photos for remembrance, short tour in the souvenir shops and have your lunch around the same premises. Pursue your journey to your prebooked hotel so that you rest and refresh yourself. You will then be transferred to Entebbe International Airport for your flight.
