Itinerary
Day 1: White water rafting – Nile river.
Meet our guide from Kfir Adventures and drive east of Uganda from Kampala city to Jinja (2 hrs. drive). As you leave the central business district, we shall stop at Namugongo martyrs shrine where the first Ugandan Christian’s were killed because of their faith. And Mabira forest, a good birders site and continue to Jinja near Lake Victoria and it’s here that we find the source of the river Nile, you will enter a boat cruise to the point where the Nile starts. Dinner and overnight at the Gately on the Nile/ Igar hotel in Jinja.
Day 2:
After your breakfast will be transferred to the start off point of your rafting. Today you are going to undertake a wild adventure, and this is water rafting. It’s going to be a half day rafting, enjoy the big rapids on the river with the help of your guides. You will also have a chance to try it your way on the river. It’s one activity that will leave the best memories of your Safari. If you love the thrill of playing adrenaline rush of abseiling, then you’re sure to enjoy water rafting. Dinner and rest at Gately on the Nile/Sunset hotel or Igar hotel.
Day 3: Transfer to Murchison Falls Park Tour.
After your breakfast head to Murchison Falls National Park another destination with a lot of scenery to appreciate about Uganda. You will have an enroute stop for lunch in Masindi town. After lunch drive straight to the park, enter the park with another stop at the top of the falls, such that you enjoy the sight and sound of the power of the falls and the river Nile. Dinner and overnight Paraa Safari Lodge/Pakuba Safari lodge or Red Chili camp.
Day 4: Game Drive on the Northern banks of the river.
– After your breakfast, you will head out for a game drive in the Northern Nile delta circuit, have a chance to see a high concentration of wildlife. You might spot the leopards along the leopard track, The big Lions in Victoria track, Jackson’s hartebeest, large concentrations of Uganda Kobs because of the many breeding grounds and large families of the Defassa waterbuck, Roth’s child giraffe towers, groups of the dainty Oribs and buffalo herds. The delta also attracts birders with species like the Abyssinian ground hornbill, the rare shoe bill stock, the Goliath Heron, and many more for the bird lovers. After your drive, have lunch at your lodge.
– After lunch, you will head out for a boat trip on the famous Nile River to view the falls from their summit. Here you get another scenery from a different angle. This boat cruise is relaxing and you will appreciate God’s creation of the Murchison Falls, expect to see the largest crocs, Hippos, and elephants playing in the water. Different birds like the African jacana, crake, African fish eagle, malachite kingfisher, to mention but a few will be spotted. After a lovely encounter rest, dinner and overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge/ Pakuba lodge/ Red Chili Camp.
Day 5: Transfer to Semuliki Park.
This morning leave Murchison Falls and drive to Fort Portal (8hrs), stopover in Hoima district for lunch. You will pass through the East African rift valley. The western arm of the rift valley extends through Hoima and the Lake Albert. Reach and check-in at Semuliki Safari Lodge/ Rwenzori Guest view house. You will undertake a Night game drive. It is full of surprises. Often the giant cats are spotted as well as tiny Jenet and serval cats. Bizarre night dwellers also show up, such as white-tailed mongoose and slender mongoose depending on the time of year. Return to the lodge for rest.
Day 6: Sempaya Hot Springs.
After taking breakfast, head for a short guided trail near Ntandi, Sempaya hot springs, and the most exciting activity in Semuliki national park. These have an evocative sight featuring hot water oozing out from a wide opening in the ground while shooting up at 100 (Celsius degree). After our nature walk we shall transfer to the caves (amabere ga nyina mwiru) for another interesting cultural trial tour. There is a very beautiful fall which is believed to have happened after a princess breast was cut off by her father. You will enjoy all these stories there. Dinner and overnight at Fort motel/ Duchess in Fort Portal.
Day 7: Transfer to Kibale National Park.
After breakfast head for chimpanzee trekking in Kibale national park. The highlight of this day is the chimpanzees in the wild, and a lot will be learnt about the chimps. Not only them, but there are other primates who live in this forest, like the grey-cheeked mangabey, olive baboons, L’Hoest monkey and red colobus alongside the black and white colobus. After the trek head back to the lodge for lunch, relax and you will then undertake another activity which is the crater drive. You will go up to the top of the world. This is one of the spectacular sights in this area. A cluster of craters lakes was formed due to volcanicity, many years’ ago. Dinner and overnight at chimpanzee guesthouse/Irungu lodge.
Day 8: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
After breakfast, you will hit the road to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will drive through beautiful villages, with preferred stops to take photos in markets, plantations and the community. This will be a short drive (2hrs), seeing the views of Lake George and Lake Edward. The park lies at the foothills of the legendary “Mountains of the Moon.” Check in at Buffalo Safari lodge, Park view or pumba cottages. After relaxing, head for the evening game drive where you will see buffaloes, warthogs, antelopes, and elephants along the way as you drive slowly to visit the Lake Katwe town with its gorgeous exhibit of crater lakes. Check out salt mining at Lake Katwe crater. You will have a chance to see the flamingos at this lake depending on the time of year. Return back to the lodge and rest.
Day 9: Game Driving and Boat Trip.
Rise up early, take breakfast thereafter head for a game drive at the Kasenyi plains, your Safari guide will help out to look for Lions, leopards, bushbuck, Uganda Kob, topi, Defassa waterbuck, and Cape buffaloes elephants, snakes to mention but a few. A collection of birds like Cassin’s grey flycatcher, broad billed roller, black bee-eater along the banks of Lake Edward. This can take you 3-4 hrs. Head back to the lodge for lunch then in the evening go for a boat cruise on the Kazinga channel (2hrs) along Lake George-Lake Edward. The Kazinga channel joins Lake Gorge with Edward. You will have a chance to sight hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffalo’s Giant Forrest hogs, leopards though rarely spotted. Watch birds for birders with over 550 resident species like flamingos, red chest, Papyrus Gonolek, pink-backed pelicans, malachite kingfishers, yellow crown, water thick-knee, yellow-billed stork. Don’t forget your camera. Return to your lodge.
Day 10: Transfer to Bwindi through Ishasha.
Enjoy the sweet morning melodies of birds up in the trees as you wake up for breakfast. After breakfast drive through Ishasha to Bwindi impenetrable National Park. If chance allows we shall spot the tree climbing lions sleeping in the huge fig trees of Ishasha area. Ishasha section is famous for its tree climbing lions. (You can opt for an additional night in this area). Proceed to Bwindi national park a worldwide recognized habitat for the mountain gorillas. Sleep at enganzi, bakiga lodge or ichumbi lodge or broadbill lodge.
Day 11: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi.
Take your morning breakfast so that you energize before you head out to the jungle for gorilla trekking by 0800hrs. You will trek through the huge Bwindi forest as you search for the mountain gorillas to observe their behavior, this can be half-day or longer. A packed lunch is recommended to be carried and this will be eaten in the jungle. After tracking, go for briefs visits to batwa (pygmies who lived in the forest before it was gazzeted as a national Park) local community. Then retire back to Lodge.
Day 12: Bwindi forest – Parc National Des Volcans (PNV).
After morning breakfast, check out of the lodge and leave Bwindi for Volcanoes National park. Enjoy the scenic drives through the rolling hills of Rwanda connecting to Volcanoes National park in Northwestern Rwanda. Dinner and overnight stay at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/ Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge/ Gorilla’s Nest Hotel/Kinigi Guest House.
Day 13: Gorilla tracking in PNV.
Wake up early and enjoy a hearty breakfast followed by tracking of gorillas in the thick forest of PNV. Tracking may take 8hrs of a full day. You may visit the famous Lake Kivu, Rwanda’s’ main and biggest freshwater body. Retire back to the lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 14: Golden monkey trekking/ Dian Fossey hike – transfer to Lake Bunyonyi.
After breakfast, transfer to the headquarters to get ready for golden monkey trekking. Volcanoes National park is home to the highest population of golden monkeys in Africa. Alternatively, hike to the graveyard of Dian Fossey, an American primatologist who lost her life to save the endangered mountain gorillas that were at the verge of extinction. You will later transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for dinner and overnight at Rock Resort Bunyonyi, Accadia cottages or hawk’s eye.
Day 15: Boat Cruise & Transfer to Lake Mburo.
Today, embark on a boat cruise to explore the different islands of Lake Bunyonyi. Cruise to Punishment Island where Bakiga girls who became pregnant before marriage would be taken and left to die in isolation. Other islands of Lake Bunyonyi include Akampene, Bushara, and Bucuraniko among others. In the afternoon, transfer to Lake Mburo national park. Overnight at Rwakobo rock.
Day 16: Lake Mburo game drives and Boat Cruise.
After breakfast head for morning game drive in search for Zebras, topis, elands, buffaloes, leopards, warthogs, waterbucks, giraffes, and ‘impalas’ which are not easily observed anywhere else in Uganda. Kampala the capital of Uganda was named after these beautiful antelopes. Along the Kigambira loop are Lakes Mburo, Kigambira and Kibikwa and klipspringers are frequent on the Kazuma track. Near Bisheshe gate there’s a rewarding site for birders. Later go for a boat trip which is cool for good sightings of hippos, crocodiles, buffalo, bushbuck, and the resident otters which are rarely spotted in Uganda. Also, the striking birds which may be seen are Abyssinian ground hornbills, egrets, Ross’ Turaco, Narina trogon, the rare shoe bill stock and herons plus the elusive African finfoot associated with still water below floating branches. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 17: Mburo and Transfer to Kampala.
After breakfast you will have a guided nature walk in the park. With an (armed ranger), this walk will get you close to the game. Learn and interact with these animals. There will also be a chance to spot birds at a closer range. You will then be transferred back to your final destination or airport with an enroute stop at the equator line for lunch.
